Wishing won't make it so, but YOU can Will it!

Pets In Need continues to benefit from its founder through her estate gift. Mrs. Jean Mahoney demonstrated her commitment to Pets In Need with a lasting legacy of her love and devotion to animals. You, too, can be among those who have provided for the future of our community's animal friends. By signifying on the remittance envelope included with our newsletter or by contacting us indicating that you have included Pets In Need in your will, you will show your testamentary commitment to Pets In Need. You will also become a charter member of the Jean Mahoney Memorial Bequest Society, named for our founder. Your name, along with other charter members, will be acknowledged in our newsletter.

One of the simplest methods of providing for dogs and cats is the bequest. A bequest is a powerful statement of your concern and care for homeless animals. Bequests are an instrument of a contributor's will that sets aside a sum of money, a portion of the estate or a portion of the estate's residuary for distribution to a charitable organization, such as Pets In Need. The bequest can be small or large. It can be assigned without any qualifications by the contributor, or it can be designated or restricted for use to a program of interest. You can make a lasting gift for the animals through a gift to Pets In Need by including a provision in your will or living trust.

The following wording may be included in a Will or Living Trust to make a lasting gift for the animals:

Charitable devise of real property in Will: "I give and devise to Pets In Need a corporation organized and existing under the California Nonprofit Corporation Law, located at 873 Fifth Avenue, Redwood City, California 94063, that certain real property commonly known as (street address or other common description) and more particularly described as follows: (detailed legal description), together with all improvements thereon, to be used for such purposes as the Board of Directors thereof may deem to be for the best interests of Pets In Need."

Charitable bequest of personal property from Will: "I give and bequeath to Pets In Need a corporation organized and existing under the California Nonprofit Corporation Law, located at 873 Fifth Avenue, Redwood City, California 94063, the sum of $_____ (or other appropriately described property), to be used for such purposes as the Board of Directors thereof may deem to be for the best interests of Pets In Need."

Distribution from Testamentary or Living Trust: I direct my Trustee to distribute from the principal of my trust estate to Pets In Need a corporation organized and existing under the California Nonprofit Corporation Law, located at 873 Fifth Avenue, Redwood City, California 94063, the sum of $_____ (or other appropriately described real or personal property), to be used for such purposes as the Board of Directors thereof may deem to be for the best interests of Pets In Need."

Your bequest will help Pets In Need endow the future for homeless animals in our community. If you have any questions regarding Pets In Need or wish to acknowledge a bequest you have made, please contact Pets In Need's Associate Director at (650) 367-1405.
