Pets In Need has earned a $5,000 Holiday Wishes grant from the Petco Foundation and is seeking the public’s support in a campaign to raise additional funds this holiday season.

The Petco Foundation, in partnership with BOBS from Skechers, invited adopters to share stories about how their pet has changed their life. Among the thousands of essays submitted was one from Lindsey Yang, a 15-year-old Hillsborough, Calif. resident whose family adopted a Chihuahua-mix named Parker in 2018.

Yang told the heartwarming story about how Parker helped her overcome depression following an injury that sidelined her gymnastics career. The teen’s story was selected as one of 50 national winners and resulted in the Petco Foundation awarding Pets In Need the $5,000 gift.

“We were so pleased to receive the news that Lindsey Yang’s story was named a winner by the Petco Foundation,” said Al Mollica. “We see firsthand the power animals have to transform lives, and it’s wonderful that Lindsey used her experience with Parker to pay it forward for other pets in need.

“We hope our community of animal lovers will read Lindsey’s story and vote in favor of Pets In Need to ensure that we receive an additional life-saving gift.”

Pets In Need was surprised by the news of the donation during a virtual celebration on Dec. 3, 2020. Now the organization is calling on all animal lovers to vote for Lindsey’s story in the People’s Choice competition.

Supporters can visit www.petcofoundation.org/vote between now and Dec. 16 to help Pets In Need earn an additional gift of $5,000 to $25,000.
