About Brie

Estimated age: 2 Years
Gender: Female
Size: 30 lbs.
Location: In Foster. At the Redwood City shelter on most weekends

Brie packs a lot of personality into 30 pounds! She’s a playful, smart and energetic pup with lots of love to give. She loves all sorts of games: tug-o-war, flirt pole, parkour, agility and scent work. Brie plays hard and rests hard— ideally snuggled up to one of her people. She’s independent and is comfortable being on her own, but happiest hanging out with her person. When a loved one returns home, she greets them with a wiggly happy dance.

She’s potty trained, crate trained and knows A LOT of training cues: Sit, Down, Stay, Touch, Come, Spin, Center, Find-It, Catch, Place, Crate, Target, Leave It, Up, Off, Paws On…. *Scroll down for fun training videos of Brie!*. She loves training, because training involves food!

Her main challenge is reactivity to dogs, and sometimes people, on walks.

Here’s what her foster has to say:

“Brie is a joy to have at home. Brie and I really enjoy playing games and training— she loves her treats and toys, so she has plenty of motivation as well as ability. It’s really rewarding training with her because she learns quickly.

She’s high energy, but not inexhaustible, and loves snuggling. If I’m on the couch, she is usually cuddled up right by me. Once she’s burned off a little energy, she is good at being mellow and hanging out. Do you want cuddles for an afternoon of binge watching? Brie is your dog!

Brie can be very PATIENT: she will wait at a door to the outside or from her crate until she has permission to go out. She waits on a down stay while I hide treats for her to seek in another room or outside. She waits for permission to eat from a food bowl. She waits for permission to chase her flirt pole or get a ball. She waits patiently to be let in from the yard. Basically, she follows house rules and looks to her people for cues on how to act.

She sometimes jumps up on people, but I’ll admit that is because we as her fosters have been inconsistent! There are too many people in her life who interpret jumpiness as enthusiasm. When we are consistent, she does quite well.

She’s funny and can be opinionated. Sometimes she rearranges her blankets, dragging them across the floor to set up in a different space. Sometimes she “back talks” (whines or grumbles) when she’s asked to do something like lie down. She complies, but she likes to let you know it’s an effort.

When new people come to the house, she gets nervous and excited, which makes her bark. She quickly warms up to them if they give her treats and love.

Her challenge or “quirk” is reactivity on walks or the outside world mostly to dogs, but sometimes to people or odd situations. As obedient and affectionate as she is within the home, she struggles with reactivity outside the home. The outside reactivity can be confusing for her person because it’s such a contrast to her at-home behavior.

Brie is a sweet & spirited lady looking for a patient, loving family. Her ideal person would be an experienced dog owner who can understand her quirks and work with her on them. She would do well as an only pet with a single guardian, to whom she would become devoted, or a family with whom she could spread her affection. She’d prefer a quiet setting so she doesn’t get too excited by foot or road traffic.
